Growing the fuel to grow the food

If imported diesel stopped, New Zealand could grow its own — but the fuel crop is a journey of its own. Follow it: canola paddocks → crush plant → biodiesel → back to the farms that grow the food, and notice the loop at the top — the fuel system needs fuel to run. Everything ends on one plate: a year of food, from a countable amount of land.

Nuclear winter 150 Tg · −61% yields

This shows one food pathway at a time — New Zealand would grow wheat OR potatoes OR dairy, never all three.
